trending. the hot pink blazer

so every girl needs a the classic black blazer, but i think that a hot pink blazer is also becoming quite the staple. It is surprisingly versatile and gives ho-hum outfits a killer kick in the ass. if you don't believe me just look here and here AND here. i've been wearing mine everywhere and i think it's genius. there's no need to spend hundreds of dollars either, i found mine at H&M for 35 dollars. score.
so it totally dresses up a gray t-shirt and leopard skinny jeans. i felt super girly and very tall pairing it with sky high platforms.
it also punched up my bummy boyfriend jeans, white tee, and my favorite cynthia vincent dinah sandals... oh yes, and you're very welcome for my fantastical self-taken pictures...

basically, i've been wearing it everywhere, i love it with navy/white stripes(my favorite) too. so what do you think? would you ever rock a hot pink blazer??

hair: a retrospective.

my sister in law is brilliant on many levels. she's one of the coolest, chillest, most fabulous people i've ever known. she's also a freaking brilliant hair stylist. she did my hair a week ago and we discussed all of the styles and colors my hair has been in the last ten years that she has been styling my hair. i lost all of my photos from college when my old computer died, tear, so here are my favorite hairdos from the past 4 years. enjoy hair: a retrospective.
holly, me, & hubs
i must have asked her for honey highlights, she prefers dark on me. this is the only college picture i have. my bangs are all sorts of wonky. i def styled these poorly.
my head shots, the ones that should get me work, but don't. my hair is actually really short for me. i loved this cut, my hair curled so easy. adored this bang.
my hair was light here, really rich color though. i rocked this bang for a long time.
my rockstar shag. love my hair this dark. i feel so exotic. and yes, it's a twilight shirt. shut it.
the greek boys loved me and my hair. i love the richness of the color. the layers are still short, but it's a great length. loooove my bangs.
rock n' roll hair. it's a little longer this time. still really piecey. my hair curled so freaking awesome. this is also one of my favorite outfits.
my hair was getting freakishly long at this point. and i loved it. i didn't want to cut any off. it's the first time in years that i grew my bangs out.
luckily, holly didn't want to cut it either. we just colored it and let it grow.
i loved this hair. just letting it grow. keeping the color simple. no bangs.
this color was genius. i felt so sexy with this hair. it just curled ah-mazingly.
we still didn't cut the ends this time... but i wanted ombre hair. she didn't want to go crazy and do it too light. i adored it.
and as of last week this is my new hair. i needed a rad change. no one is hiring me, i'm moving to california, and i just wanted to be bold. i am soooo crazy blonde. she cut a very 70's middle parted bang that i can swoop from side to side depending on my move. we cut the super dead ends off so it's a tad shorter, but i am just absolutely in love with it. i really feel sassy.

so, tell me. are you adventurous with your hair? or do you tend to do the same thing over and over? do you trust your stylist completely? or do you call the shots? what are you doing next with your hair?

sometimes change... will do you good...

so, first off, so sorry that i have been a dreadfully, terrible no good blogger as of late. my lord. it's been ages. i would like to blame. a. thanksgiving. b. hosting my in-laws for thanksgiving. c. driving 10 hours to my parents 2 days after thanksgiving with two moronic, yet adorable, puppies all by myself. d. all of the freaking above. so, yeah. that about sums it up. i thought that i would, whilest everyone sleeps, post a little somethin' somethin' while i emotionally prepare for my full blown come back ;)
for the past 2-3 years i have kept my hair long and dark because as an "actress" i wanted to look like my comp cards/ headshots. yadda yadda. welllllll. that has gone the way that you would expect it... yeah, i still haven't been hired... 2 jobs in 3 years. major suck. so for the past few months, well ever since k.stew debuted her copper hued locks, i've wanted a radical change. but since i'm still keeping the dream alive, i knew i couldn't make a huge leap. well, i found a loop hole. good ole ombre hair. thanks to the likes of jessica biel, drew barrymore, lily aldridge, and rachel bilson, i have been freed from my hair rut. my stylist aka greatest-sister-in-law-in-the-world did the most ah-mazing job. i'm so freaking happy with it. i only have a crappy cell phone pic for now, but i'm sure that you will see more of it in the upcoming posts.

so, tell me. what helps you get out of a style rut?! are you daring with your hair styles? or does change freak you out?!

see!? ashley olsen can wear clothes that fit!!!

so, celebrity dress up is back in business... and business is Ah-Booming. i'm a huge fan of all things olsen. i even dig the homeless look that they rock with ease. mary kate can almost make clogs bearable--- ALMOST. now, i have to say that my own personal style is more ashley. i like a bit more sophistication to my boho look. so here are my recreations of two of my favorite ashley olsen looks using only what i had on hand in my closet. yeah. i'm that good.

the inspiration:
my look:
so, i flipping adore this look. so simple. so sassy. and so easy to put together. it's ridiculously basic and i bet most people have all of the pieces already!!! i choose my favorite banana republic white v-neck tee, a victoria's secret black bra(call me a skank, but i love a sheer white shirt with a black bra), h&m skirt, sister's belt, and steve madden booties. my skirt was way too long, so i just rolled it up and secured it with the belt. ashley's shoes are grey, but i thought that the purple actually added a fun pop o' color. this look is so perfect for date night or even a business event, sans black bra. love.

the inspiration:
my look:
how cute am i?! :) this look is another goodie. layering is one of my favorite styling tools and no one does it better than tiny lil' ashley olsen. this look made me feel cute and stylish, but so easy... like i wasn't trying too hard. i started with a long, grey splendid tee, added a black j.crew cardigan over that, then my banana republic shrunken boy blazer over top. i added my j.brand skinnies and my sky-high steve madden platforms.  these shoes are better than sex, they turn you into a freakishly tall super model. truth. and they are comfortable. crazy, right!? i topped it all off with a ten dollar olive green scarf... and TADA!!! instant cute. i think the trick to looks that use layering is to keep each layer thin, otherwise you end up looking bulky. no bueno.

so, there are two of my favorite celebrity dress ups!! what do you think? good looks? did i capture the essence of the outfit!? is there any celebrity you think i should "dress up" as!? let me know. comments make me happy!!!

embracing my true style...

so, since i've been moving and moving and moving for the last 4 years, i find solace in redecorating and making a space my own. and i'm super excited that we are moving to san diego in 7 or 8 month and really get to set down some roots for at least 3 years. i don't know how people function in a space that's not completely them. when we move i MUST bring every single book/photo/etc... it's just how i work. lately, i've been really working on finding my personal style. not just clothing, but my general style aesthetic. i'm reading a brilliant book called style statement. a dear friend gave it to me and it's life changing. i'm going through it at a snails pace to actually really grasp it. the book narrows down your whole design/style/life into 2 words. it rocks my world. MA-jor. so here are just a few photos of home decor that is really inspiring me at the moment and is really where i see my personal style evolving to. love. it.
what defines your personal style best?! do you think you really know what your personal style is?! does your home have to feel like you 100% to feel comfortable? or can you chill anywhere!?
