if you saw part 1, then you know that this house had some special paint colors going on... this green was the most ridiculous shade of neon i have ever seen... thank the lord the owners were okay with painting it. we hired 2 guys and it was well worth it for the super high walls.

tada!!! and here is the finished product, it's probably my favorite room in the house so far. i kept all of the decor from the last few places, but with the ah-mazing wall color and genius black & white rug i think it really takes it to the next level.

okay, so while helping a friend revamp her wardrobe a few weekends ago, i came across these citizen flowery jeans that i had been lusting after in magazine after magazine... well, needless to say i have a problem because i purchased them on the spot... with my husbands lukewarm blessing, "green light." i'll take it!!!! if you don't believe me check here and here, flowery denim is so in. yay spring!!!

 

so for this particular outing i kept the look super simple, white t, gold necklaces, and my favorite cynthia vincent sandals. i can't wait to dress them up... i'll update when i do, because i know you can barely get through the day without wondering what i'm wearing and how awesome it is...

materialistic misconceptions...

sometimes, i wonder if my love for clothes and shoes and handbags and jewelry gives off the impression that i am something that i'm not... a stuck up, materialistic bitch. i've never quite understood why people who don't share the same love of fashion somehow equate fashion to shallowness!? i understand it's nonessential, but geez, other than food, water, and shelter, isn't everything kinda unnecessary!? we all wear clothes, what's wrong with wanting them to be special?

i'm not sure when the concept of spending money on well-made and classic pieces of clothing became such a ridiculous notion. i'm in no way saying that you should spend money on clothes if it's outside of what you can afford, but i don't understand buying tons of junky cheap clothes that are going to eventually fall apart when you can purchase a few quality pieces that will last a lifetime. i'm not saying that a forever21 shopping spree isn't fun once in a while, but i find that i am most rewarded when i buy things that are quality...

have you heard of the term cost per wear? basically, it's the cost divided by the amount of times you can wear the item... do this and you are left with actual value per wear... just an example, so say you buy a pair of 25 dollar shoes and you are able to wear them for one summer before they crap out, you have spent 25 cents per wear... now say you buy a pair of 125 dollar sandals, but you can wear them for 5 summers, your cost per wear is still only 25 cents per wear and you won't have to re-purchase sandals for 5 years!!! i'm a big believer in cost per wear...

i have helped tons of friends, who were hesitant to spend any money on themselves let alone on clothes, learn how to dress their bodies with clothes that make them feel ah-mazing!! it's brilliant how on their own they end up leaning towards nicer brands and more well made clothes. it's addicting.

so basically this is a giant rant for me to say... purchasing nice things and loving fashion isn't an issue of materialism, the humble everyday fashion lover just wants to wear beautiful things that are going to last.

product love: gray nails

okay, i don't know if we have ever addressed the serious problem that i have with nail polish. i lalalaLOVE nail polish. i purchase it compulsively. say i'm broke as a joke and i need a pick me up, for as little as 6 dollars i can have a pretty new polish or say i'm just in a funk and i really need a pick me up for 26 dollars you can have a beautiful little chanel box filled with the prettiest nail polish bottle in the world. then i go home, make vegan junk food and watch pride & prejudice or twilight whilest i paint my nails. that's a pretty amazing night. anywho, i digress, the other day i feel in love with a gray polish that i didn't need, so i came home to assess my own collection of gray's... it's small, but powerful... here are my 2 favorite gray polishes, both available at target, budget score!!!

i am currently wearing a sally hansen complete salon effects color commander in chic. not only is the color a brilliant rich purpley-taupey gray, i think it rivals any "fancy salon" brand nail polish. the brush is unbelievably good and the formula goes on very easy, so for 6 bucks this polish is the best value for sure.

i also love me some chinchilly by essie. the color is a little lighter, more of a light bluish-stone gray... almost concrete-ish, but with more depth. i think this is a staple color year round. i love pairing this with coral nails, super chic.

When I moved to Cali I assumed that it was going to be sunny and warm every single day of the year, but alas, LIES. It gets cold, a lot. I've been craving awful, fatty comfort foods... Yes, vegan's also like those things. So this week I'm making a grain meatloaf and the most delicious, yummy, decadent mashed potatoes that just so happen to be really good for you too. You use navy beans to pump up protein which leads to using less potatoes and because they are blended with fresh garlic they are so creamy and garlicky you really don't miss the butter or cream. I found the recipe at Oh She Glows and made them for Thanksgiving 2011, all of my meat eating friends couldn't get enough, #VeganScore.

home sweet rental, part 1: the den

yes, yes. as most of you know i just moved ah-gain. this time, out of our brilliant little condo downtown and up to the burbs. thanks military. now, i love the house and think it's beautiful, we have unbelievably awesome neighbors, the dogs love the backyard, we are so much closer to all of the other marine families, etc etc. i still miss all of the city noise trying to go to sleep when bo isn't home, i miss walking to dinner, lunch, coffee, the mall, the movie theatre, the marina, the park, the baseball stadium... so yeah... i miss it, but this is a good thing... enough debbie downing... i'm gonna go room by room over the next few months and show you my many room makeovers. to start, the room we spend the most time in, the den. 

yup, it was yellow. bright friggin yellow. after lots of primer and a coat or so of behr tide pools we ended up with a very calm, very peaceful space... 

well, okay so it wasn't peaceful yet... it was chaos and gave me a few migraines. luckily i had saved a bunch "o" cash from the past few months, hence no shopping/no blogging... no shopping makes me sad, what can i say!!?!? well i'm back up and running and the den is almost finished. drum roll please... whatever.

furniture. henry sofa, west elm; carved wood coffee table, west elm; white "tv stand", ikea; foot locker, ikea; leather chair, ikea; rug, ikea... so yes, lots of west elm and ikea... but i feel like it doesn't look like it came out of a catalog. lots of found items from ross, target, homegoods creates, what i hope is, an eclectic and interesting space. 

unfinished project... still debating closing up the back or just hiding the wires... decisions, decisions. for now i love my random collection of books and book ends. 

picture walls are literally my favorite thing in the entire world. i had quite the time with this one... i didn't even plan it out before i started to hang it up... not something i'd advise for everyone. luckily, it happened to work out nicely. having the pics floor to ceiling just looks so cool. the frames are from target, michael's, ikea, sam flax, and even craigslist. i got that huge gold frame for 25 dollars... a 400 dollar frame. i just had a mat made for 50ish bucks(it's silk, i fell in love) and i have to say, it looks like i spent 400 dollars. oh and i love my letters, from anthropologie. but if you are super creative, my buddy emily wrapped the wooden letters from the craft store with twine, very cool. 

since i went nuts with the photo wall, i decided to keep the opposite wall simple and simple. i loooove my naked upside down chair picture... and that frame is my favorite, i found it dirt cheap at hobby lobby, i wish i would've bought a ton of them. and who spies frank? isn't he the cutest. he loves mugging for the blog.
